Bookalista was a platform for buying and selling pre-used books in Denmark, with a fully-fledged escrow system for orders, a competent recommendation algorithm and a small but active community. Together with my co-founder Jonas, we acquired +3000 users, and managed the sale of thousands of books. The platform consisted of a web app, a React Native app and a fairly complex service system for managing orders, purchases, tracking, recommendations etc. I built all the systems myself, managed the databases, cloud infrastructure and everything in between during off-hours from my day job, which turned out to be an amazing learning experience.

Sadly, the economics never managed to make sense (the digital secondhand market is pretty brutal in Denmark), and after several attempts at turning the business profitable we decided to shutter the project and move on.
